The Nebraska Freedom Coalition’s “Take Back Nebraska” summit got off to a bit of a rocky start. First, Creighton University, where the event was scheduled to be held, cancelled the event the day it was scheduled and suspended the membership of Turning Point USA’s Creighton chapter, leading them to withdraw their involvement from the event (nominally).
The summit then became a “rally” at Turner Park, where many of the same guests spoke in the open air amphitheater with a set of speakers. The guests included Matt Innis, a local candidate who challenged Senator Ben Sasse in the Republican primary, and Jack Posobiec, host of the Human Events podcast and popular conservative voice on Twitter. Then a few local members of Antifa showed up. One of them rushing the stage once Jack Posobiec began to speak, knocking over the speakers. Matt Innis then took this person off stage, getting his glasses and cell phone broken in the process. The agitator was later taken away by local police in handcuffs. Posobiec later laughed about the encounter, “ladies and gentlemen, they’re not sending their best.” He also tweeted a photo of the alleged assailant, which immediately became reposted as a “soyjack” meme.
Posobiec was then scheduled to host a “cocktail reception” for the event at a venue in Omaha’s Old Market. This venue also bailed at the last moment after allegedly receiving death threats. Gubernatorial candidate Theresa Thibodeau stated that she briefly considered hosting the event in her own backyard, literally, but a family-owned pizza restaurant, Don Carmelo’s, stepped up to host the event in their party room instead. Around 100 people showed up, packing the room wall-to-wall, standing room only.
Posobiec arrived with his wife and kids, who had been visiting Hollywood Candy and the Imaginarium in the Old Market earlier together. Posobiec spoke for about half an hour on various topics, including scandals involving Hunter Biden, Covid lockdowns in Shanghai, and even Trump’s tweets. Apparently, Trump, as a verified Twitter follower, enjoyed being able to watch angry reactions from other verified users whenever he tweeted. Posobiec then took questions from the audience. One woman, a Mexican immigrant who recently became a citizen, commented, “we had to move the event today to be here, it means at the local level there are dark forces moving against us … what do we do?” Posobiec responded, “They fought hard to stop this room from even coming together. I want every single person to meet somebody tonight, somebody you know don’t know. Get a phone number, get an Instragram, Gettr, Truth. This is influence right here.”
Posobiec stayed afterward to meet and greet guests and take photos with them. Several candidates for office were also able to speak, including gubernatorial candidates Breland Ridenour and Theresa Thibodeau and candidate for Secretary of State Robert J. Borer.
