Remembering 9/11

On Labor Day, the River City Republicans hosted a 9/11 Memorial Luncheon at the Garden Café in Rockbrook Village in Omaha. Around 50 people came to hear from a handful of speakers over hamburger steak and mashed potatoes and hear their thoughts head of the 20th anniversary of 9/11. Former Gov. Dave Heineman, was the emcee for the event, and the speakers including Aaron Hansen from the Omaha Police Department, Omaha firefighter Michael Davenport, and Mike Conolly, a retired NYC firefighter who was there on 9/11. They all had stories to tell, mostly about where they where on that day twenty years ago and the responsibilities involved with being first responders. The final speaker was Congressman Don Bacon, who had plenty to say on issues relating to national security, giving a brief rundown on the Biden administration’s failure in Afghanistan. One guest said that Bacon was able to summarize the situation in Afghanistan better in five minutes than anyone in the media had in five years.

The Labor Day event was one of several meetups the River City Republicans have hosted at the Garden Café over the past few years, and it marked a somber occasion on the eve of the anniversary of the terrorist attacks that changed the nation 20 years ago.
