Mike and Karen Pence stopped in Glenwood, Iowa Saturday morning for a town hall at the Bloom Senior Center. Around sixty guests and member sf the media joined them and members of the Mills County GOP for donuts before Pence gave a brief stump speech and then took questions from the crowd. Pence began by addressing the deadly conflict in Israel that had broken out overnight.
“Prime minister Netanyahu has simply said that Israel is at war,” Pence said. “And I say to you with a heavy heart this is what happened when you have a president like Joe Biden who spends the last two and a half years projecting weakness on the world stage from that disastrous withdrawal in Afghanistan to the mothers in Iran for the last two and a half years begging them to get back in the Iran nuclear deal.”
Pence took several questions from the crowd on agriculture, renewable energy, the budget deficit, and social security. One guest in particular praised Pence for certifying the electoral college vote on January 6, 2021 but stressed the more present danger of out of control spending, particularly as the United States moves to spend more on servicing the national debt than on national defense.
Mike and Karen Pence stayed afterward to greet guests, take photos, and autograph books before leaving for the next of there other town hall events they would be holding across Iowa before the end of the day.
