SUMMARY:Pachyderm Luncheon with Tom Brewer
DESCRIPTION:The Pachyderm Luncheon on Monday\, June 29 will have Tom Brewer as its guest speaker. \n\n\nTom Brewer (born August 6\, 1958) is an Oglala Lakota retired U.S. Army colonel\, veteran\, and former Nebraska state senator. He represented Nebraska’s 43rd Legislative District (a large rural western district) as a Republican from 2017 to January 2025. \nBrewer served 36 years in the Army\, including six tours in Afghanistan\, and was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He grew up near the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in western Nebraska and enlisted after high school. \nSince Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine\, Brewer has been a strong advocate for the country. He has made multiple trips (at least nine or ten as of 2026) to Ukraine — including to frontline areas — to deliver humanitarian aid and supplies\, assist with training\, document conditions\, and gather firsthand information to share with U.S. lawmakers as a “pipeline” for assessing needs and aid effectiveness. His visits have taken him closer to active combat zones than most other U.S. elected officials. \nHe continues this work post-legislature as a private citizen focused on supporting Ukraine’s defense of democracy. \n\n\nEvent Details\n\nDate: Monday\, June 29th\nTime: 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.\nPrice: $25.00 (Includes Plated Lunch: entree\, potato or similar\, vegetable\, beverage\, tax\, & tip. “Coffee Only” option is no longer available)\nLocation: The German American Society\, 3717 S. 120th St\, German Room\n\nThe Pachyderm Luncheon\, hosted by John Sieler\, is a monthly event held on the second\, fourth\, and fifth Mondays\, bringing together the Greater Omaha Pachyderm Group for engaging discussions and community updates. \nRSVP to John Sieler

SUMMARY:Pachyderm Luncheon with County Attorney Don Kleine
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, August 10\, 2026 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The German American Society 3717 S. 120th Street\, Omaha \nJohn Sieler and the Greater Omaha Pachyderm Group cordially invite you to join us for a luncheon featuring Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine. \nAbout Our Speaker\nDon Kleine is a lifelong Omaha resident who has served as Douglas County Attorney since 2007. A graduate of Creighton Prep and the University of Nebraska at Kearney (where he played college baseball)\, he earned his law degree and built a distinguished career as a trial lawyer. \nBefore becoming County Attorney\, he served as Chief Deputy under County Attorney Jim Jansen and as Chief of the Criminal Bureau for the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office. He has prosecuted numerous high-profile cases and is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. His office pioneered Nebraska’s first problem-solving courts to address addiction while prioritizing public safety. \nDon teaches criminal prosecution at Creighton University School of Law\, has coached youth sports for decades\, and lives in Omaha with his wife Kim. They have three children and six grandchildren. \nIn May 2020\, during the civil unrest following the death of George Floyd\, Omaha bar owner Jake Gardner fatally shot James Scurlock outside Gardner’s business. After reviewing the video evidence and witness statements\, Kleine determined Gardner had acted in self-defense and declined to file charges. Facing intense public pressure\, he later referred the case to a grand jury with a special prosecutor. The grand jury indicted Gardner on manslaughter and other charges; Gardner died by suicide before trial. Kleine has consistently stood by his original self-defense finding. \nLunch: $25 (includes plated lunch) A “Coffee Only” option is available. \nRSVP to John Sieler.
