Guest Speaker Tom Briese
Tom Briese, Nebraska’s State Treasurer since November 1, 2023, launched a notable political chapter after being appointed by Governor Jim Pillen to succeed John Murante, following a six-year tenure as state senator for District 41, where he was elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2020. While his treasurership didn’t stem from a traditional campaign, his prior legislative bid showcased a focus on fiscal responsibility and conservative values, highlighted by his 2023 push to recall Senator Merv Riepe over Riepe’s opposition to the Nebraska Heartbeat Act, a six-week abortion ban. Briese, a Republican from Albion born April 12, 1959, transitioned into the treasurer role with a platform rooted in efficient tax collection and state fund management, drawing on his rural Nebraska roots and legislative experience to steward the office, which he assumed without a public campaign but with Pillen’s backing amid a field of eight contenders.
