John Sieler and the Greater Omaha Pachyderm Group invite you to join us with Sheriff Aaron Hanson Sheriff Hansen will discuss current challenges and opportunities for law enforcement in Douglas County and the nation. There will be a time for Q & A.

Aaron Hanson was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. Hanson graduated from Omaha North High School in 1992 and attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha. In 1996, at the age of 22, Hanson commenced sworn service with the Omaha Police Department as a police officer. In 2023, Hanson retired from the OPD after more than 26 years of service upon being elected the Sheriff of Douglas County, Nebraska. During Hanson’s career in the OPD, he served as a patrol officer and police service dog handler before being promoted to Sergeant in 2014. As a supervisor, Hanson was assigned to the Uniform Patrol Bureau’s North East Precinct and the Criminal Investigations Bureau, Special Operations Division as supervisor of the North Gang Suppression Squad, the Day Shift Gang Suppression Squad and finally the Metro Area Task Force, Fugitive Squad. Hanson served as the President of the Omaha Police Oficer Association from 2005 ot 2011, as a Trustee on the City of Omaha Police and Fire Retirement System from 2011 to 2017 and as the Legislative Liaison to the Omaha Police Officer Association from 2017-2022. Hanson served as the Executive Director of the Nebraska Center for Workforce Development and Education, a nonprofit group dedicated to exposing high school students and individuals with a reentry history to skilled trade careers. Hanson is currently a member of the state of Nebraska’s Sentencing Reform Task Force. Today, Hanson is the Sheriff of the most populous county in Nebraska -nearly 600,000 residents- with an unincorporated population of 95,000 of which the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) has primary patrol and investigative responsibilities. Sheriff Hanson commands an agency of over 250 employees, 151 of which are sworn, providing a variety of law enforcement services to include; Road Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Court House and City / County Building Security and Services, Warrant and Civil Process service as well as a regional Crime Scene Investigations and Forensics Lab effort.
