Guest Speaker Jean Stothert

Jean Stothert, Omaha’s 51st mayor and the first woman to hold the office, has been a prominent figure in the city’s politics since her initial election in 2013. A Republican, she launched her mayoral career by defeating incumbent Jim Suttle and has since won re-election in 2017 and 2021, securing a third term with over 64% of the vote against RJ Neary. On March 26, 2024, Stothert announced her campaign for an unprecedented fourth term at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, emphasizing her record on public safety, economic growth, and infrastructure improvements like the downtown streetcar project, set for completion in 2027. Officially filing for re-election on February 20, 2025, she entered the 2025 race with a substantial financial lead, boasting a campaign war chest of approximately $614,000, far surpassing challengers like Mike McDonnell, John Ewing, and Jasmine Harris, as she aims to continue Omaha’s momentum in the nonpartisan election scheduled for May 13, 2025, following a primary on April 1.
